How AK47 Sports Version Updates Work

Sideloaded apps do not receive Play Store updates. Understanding versionCode, signing keys and in-app update prompts explains why some updates install over the old build and others fail.

There is no store update channel

Google Play handles version checks, staged rollouts and background installation for apps it distributes. An APK installed from outside the store has none of that. The installed package sits on the device at whatever version it was when you installed it, indefinitely, until you replace the file yourself.

Developer claim

Some builds show an in-app update prompt that points to a download URL. Whether a given build does this depends on the build, and we cannot confirm it for versions we have not installed.

What Android checks before allowing an update

  • Package name — the new APK must declare the same applicationId as the installed app, or Android treats it as a separate app.
  • Signing certificate — an APK signed with a different key cannot replace the installed one. This is the mechanism that blocks re-signed clones from silently overwriting a legitimate install.
  • versionCode — an integer that must be equal to or higher than the installed build. A lower value is rejected with an install failure rather than a downgrade.
  • minSdkVersion — if the new build raises its minimum Android version above your device's OS, installation stops.

How an update actually replaces the app

  1. 1.Confirm the version you already have

Open Settings → Apps → AK47 Sports → App details. The version string shown here is the one Android will compare against.

  2. 2.Download the newer APK

Use the same distribution source you originally installed from. Changing source mid-way is the most common way people end up with a differently-signed clone.

  3. 3.Install over the existing app

Open the file and choose Update. Do not uninstall first unless the install is rejected — uninstalling clears app data, including favourites and playlists.

  4. 4.Verify afterwards

Reopen the app details screen and check the version string changed. If it did not, the install silently failed or you opened a cached older file.

Update cadence

Unable to verify

No public, dated release feed for AK47 Sports exists that we have been able to locate, so any stated update frequency would be a guess. We do not publish one.

Common issues

SymptomMost likely causeWhat to do
App not installedSignature mismatch with the installed buildBack up nothing you need, uninstall, then install the new file cleanly
Nothing happens after tapping installInstall-unknown-apps permission not granted to the app you opened the file fromGrant the permission for that specific app, then retry
Version string unchangedThe downloaded file was the same buildCheck the file's version before installing rather than trusting a page label

Worth knowing: Android refuses an update whose versionCode is lower than the installed build, which is the actual cause of most 'update failed' reports.

Frequently asked questions

Will updating delete my favourites?
Installing over the top preserves app data. Uninstalling first deletes it, because Android removes the app's data directory with the package.
Can I downgrade to an older version?
Not directly. Android blocks installing a lower versionCode over a higher one, so a downgrade requires uninstalling first and losing app data.
Does the app update itself in the background?
Sideloaded Android apps cannot silently install updates without user confirmation. Any update still requires you to approve an installation.
How do I know a new version is available?
Without a store listing there is no reliable notification channel, which is why we track version reports on the hub page rather than promising alerts.
